Services Jaw Joint Problems

These are common and come from the jaw joint or from the surrounding muscles or both. Many causes of jaw joint disorders are numerous and difficult to determine. During stress people may clench or grind their teeth and this may cause symptoms. Pathology of the tissues or trauma may cause symptoms. Determining the cause can be obscure. Investigations may need to firstly rule out potential causes.

The jaw joints (temporomandibular joints) may be the only joints affected or you may be suffering from diseases affecting multiple joints. We will take a thorough history and conduct an examination and may order investigations in an attempt to diagnose the problem.

Therapy may take many forms and may include jaw exercises, physiotherapy or more invasive treatment. Serious causes may be referred to other specialists and treated appropriately. For others resistant to treatment we use strategies to reduce the impact of the persistent symptoms on your daily to day.
